When Anthoney Pansegrouw joined Lalela in 2005 in Grade 5 at Sentinel Primary School, he stepped into a space that would positively shape his growth from childhood into adulthood. He remained with Lalela throughout his primary and high school years, and after graduating, he returned to Lalela to work as an intern.
Anthoney remembers the facilitators as the heartbeat of his Lalela experience. He maintains that their care and guidance, played an important role during his adolescence. “The community they created, especially within the programme, gave me a sense of safety and belonging. It became a space where I could express myself freely, explore creativity, and develop the confidence to build and create beyond what I thought was possible.”
He credits the Heart Map curriculum as one of the most memorable and impactful experience of the after school programme. “It encouraged deep self-reflection, looking back at where I’d been, where I was, and where I wanted to go. It became a personal blueprint that helped shape my ambitions and continues to guide me today.”

Today, Anthoney works as a Senior Marketing Manager for Opliciti, a leading UK cybersecurity organisation. “My role focuses on communicating our company’s vision, creating data-driven strategies, and educating businesses on the importance of cybersecurity,” he explained.
“Looking back, Anthoney can see how Lalela’s values, particularly the focus on creativity as a lever for entrepreneurship, laid the foundation for his professional journey.” A favourite quote of his is, “a single shape can transform the outcome of a product,” which is an idea that took hold during his time in the Lalela classroom. It was exploring the circle or the square and seeing not just what something is, but what it can become.
Anthoney’s credits Lalela with shaping who he is today.
“Ultimately, I owe a great deal to Lalela. It was instrumental in shaping who I am today. Any child who joins this program joins a journey of self-discovery, a journey toward a vision that’s waiting to be realised.”
