Lalela aims to ignite the creative flame and entrepreneurial spirit within young people through our after-school educational arts programmes and once a year we exhibit the art that the incredible young people in our programmes create. The annual Community Exhibition is a standout event in the Lalela calendar, which showcases the artistic outputs of learners throughout the year.
At Lalela, we believe that every child possesses unique talents and untapped creative potential. Through art, young people learn not only how to express themselves but also how to think critically and problem-solve—essential skills to thrive and lead in their communities and in the world. Operating in the Western Cape, Johannesburg, and Zimbabwe, we offer after-school programmes that provide an artistic outlet for young people.
The Annual Community Exhibition
The annual Community Exhibition is a testament to Lalela’s commitment to providing educational arts to young people in under-resourced communities. The exhibitions coincide with the end of the school year and showcases the learners’ artistic efforts over the course of a year.
It is a celebration of imagination, hard work, and the profound impact of art.
For parents and guardians, the Community Exhibition offers a unique opportunity to connect with Lalela and better understand the programmes in which their children are participating. The event is a platform for parents to witness the growth and development of their children’s creative talents, often revealing hidden artistic or even leadership abilities they may not have been aware of previously.

Importance of Parental Support
By attending the Community Exhibition and engaging with their children’s creative pursuits, parents and guardians become an integral part of the learning journey. They witness first-hand the positive impact that Lalela has on their children, which is often a source of pride.
Moreover, the presence and encouragement of parents and guardians at these events boosts the learners’ self-esteem, often motivating them to pursue their creative interests further. Their involvement and support reinforces the idea that creativity is not only important but should be celebrated and cherished.
More than just an art show…
Lalela’s annual Community Exhibition is more than just an art show; it’s a testament to the power of creativity and a potent reminder that every young person can thrive. By providing educational arts programmes in under-resourced communities, we trust that, in partnership with communities, we are sowing the seeds of innovation and creativity. The involvement of parents and guardians in this journey ensures that these seeds grow into productive possibilities, enriching the lives of young people and in turn, their communities.
Our work is a reminder that building a brighter, more creative, and entrepreneurial world, lies in the hearts and minds of our inspired young people.
