Art Week in Cape Town in February presented the perfect opportunity for Lalela friends, South African Board members, supporters and alumni to gather, exchange stories, and raise valuable funds for our programmes—all over a delicious lunch at the city’s landmark La Perla restaurant.
With Lalela co-founder Andrea Kerzner serving as MC, guests were introduced to Executive Director Firdous Hendricks, who spoke about the impact of Lalela over the past 12 years, along with two of our former students.
Melody Legwale and Shawn Ingwane shared their experiences as Lalela artists and as participants in our Female Empowerment and Leadership programmes respectively.
Below: Guests got to shop the latest range of beautiful Lalela Scarf items, with all profits going back into our programmes.
Auctioneer extraordinaire Ariella Kuper led a rousing paddle raise for items that ranged from luxury game lodge getaways to beautiful work by Lalela artists. Additionally, a silent auction saw the successful bidding for a series of exclusive dinners, personalised art tours, beauty treatments, fashion pieces, and more student artwork.
A full range of new and all-time favourite Lalela Scarf items was available to shop (and shop our guests did!), with 100% of the profits going directly back into Lalela programmes.
And to crown a joyful and successful day, guests were treated to a stirring live performance by Lalela US Board member and Grammy Award-nominated artist Jonathan Butler.
Our warm and sincere gratitude to all who joined us, and for the tremendous support we received.
Special thanks to all our sponsors and partners for this first Lalela Friendraiser in Cape Town (from A-Z):
