Career Day at the V&A Waterfront

Recently, our Lalela high school learners visited the V&A Waterfront, one of Cape Town’s busy tourist and business hubs, to learn more about career possibilities and entrepreneurship opportunities. This outing aligns with Lalela’s mission to spark creative thinking and awaken the entrepreneurial spirit within the youth participating in our after-school programmes.

Learning About Careers

During the outing, Lalela learners were introduced to a wide range of professions at the V&A  Waterfront and received advice and inspiration to inform their own career paths. In addition to learning about established careers, learners were also exposed to entrepreneurial initiatives. They discovered how start-ups got off the ground and what it takes to succeed. This hands-on experience highlighted the possibilities that come with creativity and innovation.

Inspiring the Future

Our learners left with a better understanding of the diverse career paths they could pursue and the entrepreneurial opportunities that they can access. The outing also reinforced the importance of resilience and re-imagining challenges as opportunity—values that Lalela nurtures in the youth participating in our programmes.

At Lalela, we believe that exposing our learners to real-world experiences is important in preparing them for the future. This outing is just one of the many ways we aim to broaden their horizons. By connecting them with the wider world and showing them the various career paths they can take, we hope to present to them a future in which they can thrive.

We thank the V&A Waterfront for organising and hosting the career day outing!
