We feel extremely privileged and excited to be participating in the upcoming Investec Cape Town Art Fair, which is once more taking place in real life at the Cape Town International Convention Centre after last year’s pandemic-induced hiatus.
This year’s Investec Cape Town Art Fair is taking place from Friday, 18 to Sunday, 20 February 2022, and we hope to see you there!
Along with a beautiful selection of Lalela Scarf products that will be on display and available to purchase at our booth, we’re also proudly presenting a dazzling exhibition of Lalela learners’ artworks. Plus we’ll be offering our special ‘Kids-4-Kids’ art tours for school groups (Friday 18th only), hosted by Lalela alumni, which have always been a popular and much-anticipated highlight at the ICTAF.
About our exhibition
Inspired by the work of South African artist Juan Stockenstroom, and with a nod to the vibrancy of the Pop Art movement, Lalela learners created a series of striking portraits that celebrate figures whom they recognised as making a positive change in the world, or whose character traits and values they found admirable or aspirational. The selected artworks were drawn from Lalela’s programmes at Sentinel Primary and Hout Bay High in Hangberg and Masiphumelele High in Masiphumelele near Fishhoek.
Through exploring the influence and actions of their chosen character, the artists interrogated what it means to strive toward a connected humanity and how they themselves can play a role in creating a network of support and common understanding within their own communities.

Our booth
If you’re planning to be in Cape Town during the ICTAF, we do hope you’ll schedule a visit to this celebration of the best of African contemporary art – and be sure to pop over to our beautifully curated booth (H1) to say hello, meet some of our team members and alumni, and view our own Lalela artists’ vibrant and inspiring artworks.
You also don’t want to miss a chance to make your mark as part of a brilliant creative activation, which will have you thinking deeply about role models and the impact that each of us can make on the lives of others, especially children. A special thank you to artist and interior designer Marie-Louise Koen for her conceptualisation and production assistance!
We look forward to seeing you there!
