Lalela Learners Create a Vibrant Tribute to Mandela on Mandela Day

July 31, 2024

This Mandela Day, Lalela learners came together to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy by painting a colourful wall mural at Sentinel School in Hout Bay.

A Creative Tribute to Madiba

The colourful mural not only brightened the school wall but also served as a powerful reminder of the values Mandela stood for—unity, resilience, and hope.

The mural project included a discussion with learners about Mandela’s contributions to South Africa. Through learning about the story of his life, they gained a deeper understanding of how his legacy continues to inspire and motivate people, not only in South Africa, but around the world.

Honouring Mandela’s Legacy

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the event and our interns from Stanford University Sam and Adam for leading the event! Let’s continue to honour Mandela’s legacy by promoting unity and striving for a better world every day in which everyone thrives.

Nelson Mandela International Day is celebrated annually on July 18, Nelson Mandela’s birthday, to honour his legacy. The United Nations officially established this day in November 2009. It is essentially a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles by actively making a positive impact in their communities.
