Lalela at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair
Lalela once again made an impact at this year’s Investec Cape Town Art Fair, with youth from our Western Cape after-school programmes participating in an exclusive tour of the fair and our stand drawing significant attention and interest.
With over 120 exhibitors, 30 000 visitors, and 10 000 VIPs, the art fair offers a platform for galleries, collectors, curators and artists from around the globe to create connections at the forefront of contemporary art during its weekend run at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Kids 4 Kids Art Fair Tours
Learners from our Western Cape programmes took part in the Kids 4 Kids Tours, guided by Lalela alumni. These tours gave our young artists the chance to explore the event space and experience the incredible art on display.
Here are what our Lalela learners had to say about their experience at the art fair:
Leah from Disa Primary in Bonteheuwel: “The art I saw today inspired me. It made me feel happier and encouraged me to not be scared to express myself.”
Madaniyah from Disa Primary in Bonteheuwel: “Today I learned to be myself and not be nervous and I was so inspired by this art and I learned that I can be way more creative when it comes to doing art.”
Lulo from Salt River High:” Today, I saw art I never imagined could exist, and it taught me something new. It inspired me, and now I want to try creating it myself.”

Lalela’s stand featured an exhibition and sale of selected learners’ artwork alongside the Lalela Scarf. Profits from the Lalela Scarf directly support our organisation, enabling us to continue offering after-school educational arts programmes to youth in under-resourced settings.
By participating in the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, Lalela promoted its work while also connecting with the global art world.
