Lalela proudly celebrates the achievements of the Matric Class of 2025, whose hard work and determination have resulted in outstanding academic success. For the third consecutive year, learners participating in Lalela programmes achieved a 100% matric pass rate, with 79% obtaining Bachelor’s passes, opening pathways to further study and future opportunities.
Many of these young people have been part of the Lalela journey for several years with some joining in primary school and continuing through high school – all of them growing in confidence and leadership alongside dedication to their academic studies.

A meaningful milestone was reached by Silikamva High School, one of Lalela’s long-standing partners in the Western Cape, which achieved an impressive 100% matric pass rate. The release of the results was marked by a celebratory gathering at the school attended by parents, teachers and learners. Western Cape Minister of Education David Maynier was also present to honour the achievements of the graduating class.
In Cape Town, Lalela learners from Silikamva High School and Hout Bay High School, were among those celebrating the successful completion of their final year of school. Their achievements reflect their own dedication as well as support from their school communities and families.
In Johannesburg, the Phumelela Institute College matric class also achieved a 100% pass rate, with Lalela programme participants making a significant contribution to this success. Of the 11 Lalela learners enrolled at the school, six placed among the Top 10 overall academic achievers.
Among these high achievers was Mncedisi Ndebele, who emerged as the school’s overall top learner. Mncedisi was also named the first recipient of the Steven Majiedt Merit Award for 2026, a newly introduced award at Phumelela Institute College that recognises outstanding academic performance. The establishment of this award marks the beginning of a long-term partnership facilitated by Lalela.
The success of the 2025 matric cohort highlights the long-term impact of the sustained support and safe environments for young people participating in Lalela’s programmes.
As these graduates begin the next chapter of their journeys, we celebrate not only their academic achievements but also the resilience, creativity and leadership they carry with them now and into the future.
